Whenever You Pick Up Your Phone…

Ask these 3 questions that I learned from the book “How To Break Up With Your Phone?”:

What For?
This question reminds you to have a good reason to pick your phone for, what do you want to do with it? Reply to something? Make a call? Search for information? Or just pass time?
Why Now?
This question forces you to check your emotional and physical state. Where are you now? What are you doing or should be doing? With whom? Are you bored? Uncomfortable? Anxious? Or simply trying to avoid others?
What Else?
What else can you do with your precious time or to feel better now other than using your phone? Could you go for a walk, journal a bit, take a few deep breaths or simply have some water?

Super Questions to keep in your mind and maybe use as a lock screen image like the author suggests.

Clean Slates

What is it with clean slates that we humans love so much?

I woke up excited just because it was the first of a new month and I wanted to begin it by crossing my habit chains right off the bat.

I went live yesterday on Instagram to share how to do a monthly review and prepare for a new month. The 2 favorite review questions that got most the engagement by people watching were:

  • In the new month I will say no to…
  • In the new month I will say yes to…

The answers were so inspiring like:
No to sugar, no to coffee after 6pm (studies say 2-3pm), no to breaking my diet, no to gossiping, no to hesitation, no to judging others, no to tasks delegated to me out of laziness, no to sleeping late, no to getting with others who bring me down.

Yes to waking up early, yes to learning more about the topic I’m studying, yes to sharing my gratitude with others, yes to improving my language, yes to keeping my mask on (a COVID19 survivor).

I’m grateful we shared these uplifting messages together. I’m also grateful for learning these 2 questions from Lara Casey.

A good question to think of today is:

By the end of this month I will have achieved/finished/started/committed to … ?

Happy New Month everyone. Let’s end quarter 1 of the year proudly.

Evening Reflection Questions

I mentioned in my evening ritual post that I like to end the day with reflecting on the day using the five-minute gratitude journal which has an evening section consisting of 2 prompts:

  1. 3 Amazing things that happened today…
  2. How could I have made today even better?

I am happy I built my gratitude habit so well that I find it so easy to answer question one. I still get stuck sometimes answering question 2 because sometimes I really feel I gave it all I got that day. That’s why I try to ask myself this question in a different way, making it more specific, like:

  1. How might I have been harsh, uncaring, unfriendly, or unkind today?

Below are some other good reflecting questions shared by Ryan Holiday to give yourself a pat on the back on the progress you are making.

  1. What bad habit did I curb today?
  2. How did I improve today?

More reflections questions I loved (and shared here before) from the author Tasha Eurich

  1. What went well?
  2. What didn’t work?
  3. What did I learn from this?
  4. How will I be smarter tomorrow or next time I face this?

The internet is full of good questions to use for reflection, do not overwhelm yourself. What is important is you start this end-of-day reflection habit. Choose one to three questions only to answer every night to make the habit as small as possible so you would stick to it. Keep your reflection journal on your pillow so you will see it when you go to bed and remember to do it.

Happy reflection!
