As I’m preparing to end my digital declutter challenge I would like to share my social media mission statement and digital rules below:
My social media mission statement (draft #1):
I am on social media to teach what I learn from books I read and self-development experiments I apply in my personal life. I want to inspire people and women in particular to love themselves and take care of themselves first through goal setting and building and tracking positive daily habits in order to be able to take care of the people in their lives and meet their responsibilities with energy and love.
Here are my new digital engagement rules after I finish my digital declutter challenge on Feb 15th. I will do maintenance for these rules by reviewing and tweaking them every month to better manage my time and attention.
- Instagram:
- I will connect at a fixed time daily @ 9pm.
- I will connect for one hour engage with others and post my content for the day including stories.
- I will publish 2-3 posts weekly.
- I will go live once or twice a month at minimum.
- Facebook (personal and official page):
- I will not download the Facebook apps again on my phone.
- I will connect weekly via laptop to check on family and friends’ updates.
- I will publish the same content I post on instagram on my official page.
- I will update these rules if I find trouble posting through instagram only.
- Whatsapp:
- I will keep the habit of no Whatsapp between 6pm-9pm in weekdays. I may need to modify it with schools starting again if I see I’m missing important communication from school or mums’ group.
- I need to stay mindful of my whatsapp usage during the work day, keep the 8-minute hourly limit and use Whatsapp web when necessary.
- I will be more flexible using Whatsapp over the weekend as I usually connect more with my friends and family and early risers’ groups. I will not use it when I’m spending time with my family.
- Gmail (personal email):
- I will not install Gmail again on my phone.
- I will keep the habit of checking Gmail for 15 minutes daily controlled by Leechblock extension.
- I will try to replace Gmail with Feedly to read my favorite content in one place (I used Feedly before but got encouraged again by a friend and also Seth Godin in this post. I will report back on the experience at the end of the month).
- Netflix:
- I will keep using Netflix on big screen.
- I changed my eating routine with a meal delivery service at lunchtime at work, so in the evenings I started having fruits as a snack with Netflix which is way healthier.
- I will allow myself to use Netflix on my phone occasionally and no more than one episode daily overall.
