Radio Crush

A little thing that few people in my life know I like to do every now and then is sending voice notes to my favorite local Arabic radio station Watar FM. It’s my favorite because their Arabic choice of music is so good and especially because I respect their strict policy of not speaking over music. So when a song is playing we get to hear it from start to end. No ads. No interruptions. On the other hand, there are certain radio shows elsewhere where we are put through the agony of presenters singing along with songs not just cutting them. Does it annoy you too?

What I like about Watar FM’s morning show is that the presenter Fawaz answers Whatsapp voice notes from listeners so warmly that it feels you’re listening to a phone call interaction. Fawaz is that good at what he does. Today the topic of discussion was the hyped snow storm Amman is expected to receive in a couple of days. I sent them a voice note telling them I wish my 5-year old would finally get to see snow because he never played with it once with snow skipping our country for so long. Fawaz played my note and was so generous to mention my instagram account to his listeners. What a pleasant surprise. Later today he called me to invite me to be their radio show guest next week!

I’ve always loved radio so much, it’s one reason I started my own podcast. I can’t wait to share with others what I do through this classic medium.
